It is only when one reaches middle age that they realize: books are the most nourishing.

When young, one always believed that luxurious clothes, fine food, expensive watches and fancy cars were nourishment. It wasn't until middle age that I realized:Be beautiful from within and it will show on the outside." This is the lasting richness.

Host Dong Qing once said: "I always believe that all the books I have read will not be in vain. They will always help me perform better at some point in the future." Indeed, this is the case.

Every page you turn through is quietly shaping you, transforming you into an inner essence that exudes the fragrance of your soul.

The renowned writer Bi Shumin once said: "Books are not rouge, but they can keep one's appearance youthful forever." Reading is a silent process of transformation and renewal.

1️⃣ Books cultivate one's character.

The ancients said: "One's demeanor is exalted by the knowledge of literature." This charm cannot be fabricated with precious stones or painted with rouge. It is the unique brilliance that is meticulously crafted by time and wisdom.

Look at the host Dong Qing. No matter when or where, her composed elegance and eloquent eloquence, as well as her profound knowledge, make one feel as if embraced by a gentle breeze.

This is not achieved overnight. It is precisely because she has immersed herself in books for decades that her knowledge has been transformed into a noble demeanor.

Reading is like the gentle spring rain, subtly influencing you over time, shaping your speech and refining your posture. The calmness that accumulates within you is the most precious gift from time.

2️⃣ Books Shape One's Mindset

A philosopher once said: "Books are the portable sanctuaries." This statement is true.

  • When in trouble, reading can clear the fog and reveal the truth;
  • When restless, reading is like a clear spring that soothes the mind;
  • When confused, reading is like a lighthouse that points out the right direction;
  • When frustrated, reading can provide strength to set sail again.

For the past two years, I encountered a work-related bottleneck. I was constantly feeling frustrated and anxious, and often vented my anger on my family over trivial matters.

It was only after I opened "Emotional First Aid" that I learned how to face and channel the inner turmoil;

reading "The New Biography of Su Dongpo" further deeply touched me with his "taking things as they come in life" attitude of his, and my state of mind also became more open.

3️⃣ Books nourish the soul

Mr. Yang Jiang insightfully pointed out the essence: "The significance of reading lies in using what one has experienced in life to read, and using what one has learned from reading to live."

Reading "Ordinary World", one understands the importance of holding on in the face of hardships and creating greatness in the ordinary. That resilience reaches deep into one's soul.

Reading Wang Zengqi's "Flowers and Plants in Human Life", one learns to savor the true essence and poetry of life in every meal, every plant, and every blade of grass, making even ordinary days shine with light.

In the adult world, exhaustion is the norm, and loneliness is the background color.  How can one place that soul that sometimes wanders and sometimes gets hurt? Only through reading.

Reading may not immediately turn into a golden mansion and a thousand bushels of grain, but it quietly expands your cognitive boundaries, enriches your wisdom treasury, and endows you with the ability to think independently and the wings for your soul to soar freely.

Shakespeare had a profound insight: "Without books in life, there would be no light; without books in wisdom, there would be no wisdom."

When one reaches middle age, reading is the most effective form of health preservation - it nourishes the brain, soothes the heart, and rejuvenates the soul. It's better to pick up a book and allow your mind to have a deep spa treatment rather than wasting time on fragmented information.
