Charlie Munger, I strongly recommend that everyone should keep a regular record of themselves!

Why do ordinary people need to keep records more? Remember, a psychologist once said - Human memory is like a sieve, what gets filtered out is the truth.

Those times that were not recorded in words have left no trace at all.

  • How did the day go?
  • How did the week go?
  • How did the month go?
  • How did the year go?

It seems that one can't recall anything, as if there is a eraser in the brain, which fades away with the passage of time. The memories in the brain are gradually wiped clean, leaving nothing behind.

Memory is like this for now, and let alone those life lessons which are like forgotten pearls.

Because the brain is the easiest to deceive itself and is also very good at forgetting pain.

Remember that Munger once said - His greatest success in his life stemmed from "creating the checklist", a list that recorded all failed cases and decision-making mistakes. This checklist enabled him to avoid repeating the same mistakes and also served as a constant reminder for him to stay alert.

How can recording serve as a true means to change one's life?

1、Record "Error List" Create your own "error list".

Record all the mistakes in the workplace, the misjudgments in investments, and the rifts in interpersonal relationships. Regularly review and analyze: Why did this happen? How should I handle it next time if I encounter a similar situation? Over time, you will find that you no longer fall into the same traps.

2、Record "Cognitive Iteration".

Today, I learned a new concept, such as "attention", and I used Li Xiaoli's (a best-selling author) eight questions to organize this concept by myself. I also conducted a deep cycle of "input - understanding - processing and thinking - output" to enhance the absorption of the learned content, thereby improving the degree of knowledge acquisition.

3、Record "emotional fluctuations"

When strong emotions arise, such as happiness, joy, sadness, or pain, you must immediately record them. What was it that caused me to have such emotions? Why do such emotions arise? How does this kind of emotion affect my behavior? Next time when I encounter something similar, how should I properly manage my emotions?

Only when words lay out emotions in the sunlight can you distinguish between "facts" and "hallucinations".

4、Record "Minor Progress"

At the end of each day, strive to be a little smarter than you were when you woke up in the morning. Record one new skill you have mastered and one small goal you have accomplished each day. These fragments will eventually piece together to form the compound curve of your life.

Starting from today, you must keep a regular record of yourself! You don't need to be smarter than others. All you need is to be more alert than you were yesterday.
